When to Approach the Insurance Ombudsman
P
Priya PatelThe Insurance Ombudsman is a quasi-judicial body set up to resolve grievances of insurance policyholders. It's a cost-effective and efficient way to get justice.
Who Can Approach?
Any individual policyholder who has a grievance against an insurer can approach the Ombudsman. This includes complaints regarding partial or total rejection of claims, delay in settlement, or disputes over premiums.
Prerequisites
Before approaching the Ombudsman, you must have first filed a formal complaint with your insurer and either received a rejection or no response for 30 days.
The Power of the Ombudsman
The Ombudsman's decision is binding on the insurance company but not on the policyholder. If you're unhappy with the verdict, you can still approach consumer courts.
